Adventure Begins at Your Library - Kick Off Party!

Saturday, June 8th at 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM 

Join us outside the Asheboro Public Library for a Kick-off to Summer Reading! Sign-up to win prizes for reading this summer! Play carnival games, jump into a giant foam pit, take home a balloon animal by stilt walker Lanky Lou, and get a free Kona Ice kids cup (while supplies last)!


Tuesday, June 4th at 10:00 AM - Summer Adventure Storytime for Littles. Best for ages 0-3. Join us for a lap-sit storytime celebrating this year’s theme for summer reading, Adventure Begins at Your Library! 

Wednesday, June 5th at 10:00 AM - Summer Adventure Storytime for Pre-K. Best for ages 3-6. Join us for a preschool storytime celebrating this year’s theme for summer reading, Adventure Begins at Your Library! 

Saturday, June 8th at 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM - Summer Reading Kick-off Party. 

Tuesday, June 11th at 10:00 AM - Campfire Sing-alongGet ready for a summer full of adventure at our Library Campfire Sing-along! Join in on singing songs around a pretend bonfire, learn how to set up a tent and other wilderness skills, and take home s’mores treats.

Friday, June 14th at 2:30 PM - Matt Sandbanks Shadow Factory. Cinematic shadow puppets dance across the screen to uplifting music and traditional storytelling during Matt Sandbank’s Shadow Factory performance. Be amazed by the adventure of light and shadow! 

Tuesday, June 18th at 10:00 AM - Different Drum Musical Performance. The eclectic ensemble of Alex Weiss & Different Drum draws from folkloric and popular music of Africa, The Americas and several Islands as well as original compositions. A musical adventure for the whole family that will have you moving and dancing! 

Friday, June 21st at 2:30 PM - STEAM Coding Adventure. Visit the Asheboro Library for a free-play STEAM day! Tinker with snap circuits, solve coding riddles, and try your hand at building a computer with a kids raspberry pi! All ages welcome, but best for ages 5+.

Tuesday, June 25th at 10:00 AM & Friday, June 28th at 2:30 PM - NC Zoo Adventures. The North Carolina Zoo is bringing a worldwide adventure to your local library! Come explore 3 continents, meet some awesome animal ambassadors, learn about famous pioneers and scientists, and dive into some adventurous jobs. The program aims to engage everyone of all ages as we take a trip around the world this summer!


Week of July 1 through July 6th -  Adventure Camp Craft Bag. Pick up a craft bag this week in the children’s room, while supplies last. Adventure camp bags will include an easy craft and a family outdoor activity. Best for ages 5+.  

Friday, July 5th at 2:30 PM - Dr. Lexi’s Mystery Slime Lab. Join Dr. Lexi in the Lab to create your very own mysterious slime! What pet slime creature will you make and take home? All ages welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult. 

Tuesday, July 9th at 10:00 AM - Incredible Journey with Stormwater SMART. Join Haley Bock, the AmeriCorps Environmental Educator with Stormwater SMART, as we learn about the incredible journey of the water cycle and water conservation! With hands-on experiments, we’ll learn the importance of the water cycle and how we can protect our environment. 

Friday, July 12th at 2:30 PM - Big Bang Boom Band. Get ready to dance at this high-energy, family friendly, kindie rock concert! Beloved children’s musicians, the Big Bang Boom Band, perform family classics and unique songs to get you moving and shaking. Be prepared for a kids vs. adults dance battle!

Tuesday, July 16th at 10:00 AM - Ellie’s Exotic Roadshow. Get up close and personal with some scaly, leggy, and fluffy friends from all over the world at Ellie’s Exotic Roadshow! Meet animal ambassadors and learn more about their habitats. Through storytelling, video, physical challenges, and hands-on interactions, you’ll learn why these creatures are important to our diverse world, how you can protect them and coexist peacefully.

Wednesday, July 17th at 6:00 PM - “When Sea Becomes Sky” Countywide Book Club Event. Join us for a countywide summer reading book club at Asheboro Public Library! When Sea Becomes Sky by Gillian McDunn, winner of the North Carolina Great Reads of 2023, is a heartfelt summer story about siblings Bex and Davey discovering a mysterious underwater statue in their beloved salt marsh. Where did it come from, who could have put it there? Is this the summer adventure they’ve been waiting for? Read the middle-grade book before we meet and participate in literary games, treats, and crafts! Books available through check out at Randolph County Libraries. 

Friday, July 19th at 2:30 PM - Mr. Fantastic’s Magic Show

Tuesday, July 23rd at 10:00 AM - Shepherd Shakespeare’s Hamlet and the Pirates. Shepherd Shakespeare makes theater fun and interactive for children and families in this energetic performance of Hamlet and the Pirates. Go on an epic high seas adventure with Hamlet as he’s taken captive by swashbuckling pirates in this madcap, hilarious show! 

Friday, July 26th at 2:30 PM - Family History Adventure (Genealogy for kids). Join research librarians Roberta Gavin and Kendra Lyons from the Randolph Room as we uncover the mysteries of our histories! Families of all varieties can learn how to make a family tree and follow their genealogy through the ages, with the help of our local historians. All ages welcome, children must be accompanied by an adult. 

Tuesday, July 30th at 10:00 AM - Puzzles, Quests & Treasure Hunt Storytime. Go on a storytime quest with Ms. Hannah and Ms. Sam! Read stories, sing songs, solve puzzles, craft maps, and follow the clues on an ultimate treasure hunt around the library.  


Friday, August 2nd at 2:30 PM - Sigmon Theatrical presents “Dragon Quest!”. Don't miss this extraordinary adventure that transports you to an enchanted world where dragons take flight. This immersive experience show is packed full of action, combining state-of-the-art puppetry, mesmerizing illusions, and a story that’s guaranteed to draw the audience into a world filled with magic, mystery, and the age-old battle between good and evil. Audience interaction adds an extra layer of excitement, making each performance a unique and unforgettable experience. Following the show, guests can get up close and personal with a dragon in our exclusive meet-and-greet experience.

Tuesday, August 6th at 10:00 AM - Lighthouse History & Crafts for Kids. National Lighthouse Day is on August 7th! Get prepared by learning more about lighthouses around the US and craft your very own to take home. Join avid lighthouse historians Tony and Alva Pasek for this educational, hands-on event for the whole family.  

Friday, August 9th at 10:00 AM - Computer Tots (for ages 3-6) It’s fun to learn all about computers with Ms. Hannah! Pre-k children learn the basics of using a mouse and other foundational skills for using computers. Registration required: call 336-318-6804 to sign up.

Swashbuckling Tales Summer Kick-off

Friday, June 7th 4:00-6:00 PM

Ahoy all ye landlubbers and bookworms alike! Swashbuckling Tales: A Pirate Adventure at Sea will kick off Archdale’s Summer Reading. Don your pirate attire and craft pirate hooks, hats and swords to capture your pirate spirit. The celebration will end on a high note at 6 p.m. with a Songs in the Stacks concert by Asheboro musical artist Corey Hunt and the Wise.

July 17, 2:30 PM: Mr. Fantastic’s Magic Show. The comedy magician will have you questioning if his tricks are real or make believe during his interactive, hilarious magic show.

July 24, 10:30 AM: Cosmic Quest — An Interactive Space Adventure. Explore the cosmos; compete in a series of challenges to unlock the secrets of the universe.

Thursday, July 25 at 4:00 PM: Omega Crag author Micki Bare. Meet the award-winning author of the Society of the Sentinelia middle grades series.

July 31, 10:30 AM: Shepherd Shakespeare — As You Like It. One actor barrels through a bevy of costumes and props, and enlists the audience to help tell Shakespeare’s tale.

As the Franklinville Library celebrates 100 years of service to the community, we are highlighting Franklinville’s heritage through a variety of programs. Participate in engaging programs which highlight our unique history through painting, weaving, pottery, and more this summer (some are best for kids, some for teens and adults). Discover 100 ways to use your library through our Facebook page. Give your stories for our oral history project throughout the summer and early fall. Check out our historical tour of Franklinville on the StoryWalk this fall. Explore the changes in Franklinville over time with historical and current photos of our Town in the month of September. Enjoy music, food, and more at our reception in October.

Saturday, June 29th from 1:00-3:00 PM: StoryWalk Festival at Freedom Park. Get outside, explore nature... and read a book! Celebrate North Carolina as the Great Trails State with county and community organizations. There will be a DIY trail mix activity.

August 1, 10:30 a.m.: Caleb Sigmon’s Dragon Quest Fantasy Adventure. In this immersive adventure, journey alongside a daring young adventurer as she discovers what it means to be brave and how magic can truly happen when you believe in yourself.

Track your summer reading for prizes and rewards! 

Sign up at your local library.

Pick up a Minutes Reporting Sheet from your local library branch. Keep track of how many minutes you read and return your reporting sheet to your library for prizes and entries into grand prize drawings.

Prizes!

Prizes will vary at each library, but will include cool gadgets, books and library gear. Read 20 hours and be entered into the grand prize drawing for large prizes, like Kids Amazon Fire tablets and Leap Frogs.

Photos and videos taken at Randolph County Public Libraries events and programs are often shared with the community in a variety of forms. Videos may be archived on our YouTube channel. Photos may be added to our Facebook or Instagram accounts, and on rare occasions to our website.
