Summer Reading Kick-off Carnival at Asheboro Public Library - Saturday, June 11th, 10 a.m. - noon: Sign up for summer reading, play outdoor lawn games, take pictures with roaming under-the-sea entertainers such as stilt walking jellyfish and mermaid bubble artists from Imagine Circus! We’ll be joined by the Kona Ice food truck and the Mobile Library.

Caleb Sigmon is Blackbeard the Pirate at Sunset Theatre, 234 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro - Saturday, June 18, 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Sigmon Theatrical presents “Blackbeard the Pirate,” a comedy and magic performance that will have your whole family in awe! Grab your eyepatch, parrot, and telescope – a swashbuckling voyage is in store for you! Daring swordfights, pirate shanties, magical effects, and one hilarious talking parrot that will have you bursting at the seams!

Summer Reading Finale Party at Asheboro Public Library - Saturday, July 30, 10 a.m.- noon: Wave goodbye to Summer Reading by creating a giant ocean wave community chalk mural at the Asheboro Library! Outdoor events include minute-to-win-it games with fun prizes.

Sign up and receive a packet with the Summer Reading schedule, crafts and free books. Keep track of the books you have read and other reading activities, and report the information for a chance to win a tablet in an end-of-summer drawing.

Octopus Leg Community Reading Challenge: For every book checked out during the summer, a link will be added to the legs of a resident “octopus.” If the octopus’s legs reach out to all of the library walls, an extra-special treat will be added to the end of-summer party on August 6

In June, meet Secret Agent 23 Skidoo, a Grammy-winning, internationally touring, purple velvet tuxedo-wearing family funk phenomenon as the Secret Agency hosts a virtual Rhyme Writing Workshop. Watch the workshop on the big screens at several libraries, or on your local library’s Facebook page, then write your own rhymes. Can you write a rap to the beat and perform for the rest of your friends? 

Make your own pretend-play microphone to sing along with the workshop. Pick up your FREE Secret Agency Craft Bags from your local library branch! One per child, while supplies last.

In July, sing, dance and learn Spanish and English in a joyful blend of cultures with Parents Choice award winners Alina Celeste and Mi Amigo Hamlet, premiering on library Facebook pages during the week of July 11-15, with screening events at several libraries. Some screening events accompanied by crafts!

Make your Under the Sea art alongside the virtual program with a FREE arts and crafts bag! Pick up your FREE Alina Celeste & Mi Amigo Hamlet Craft Bags from your local library branch. One per child, while supplies last.
