Asheboro Library TeenZone Mission Statement:
The Asheboro Library TeenZone provides a safe and welcoming environment for teens to develop a lifelong interest in and appreciation for reading and learning. The library and the TeenZone provide a variety of programs and services for teens to promote literacy, foster a love of reading and create the opportunity for lifelong learning. The Asheboro Library TeenZone supports educational, civic, cultural, and recreational activities, to aid the individual’s pursuit of self-education and research, pleasure, and the creative use of leisure time, while employing the most efficient library resources available.
The TeenZone also provides a relevant collection of print and non-print materials that meet the developmental needs of the young people of Asheboro, and surrounding communities.

The purpose of a “teen” librarian is to act as a guide to the library for the most under-represented age group in America: those people aged 12-18. For this reason, the teen librarian is dedicated to providing a caring user experience for teens that visit the library. The library is a “third space” that isn’t home or school, where you are free to just hang out. Whether you are a first-time visitor or a lifelong library user, we work to provide an experience that is welcoming and inclusive. We’re here for you. We work hard to create a Young Adult collection that reflects what you want to read, so we encourage you to let us know if there’s a book you want but don’t see in the collection.
The teen librarian is also an advocate for young people, generally. We care about your experience in the library. We want the library to be inclusive, welcoming, friendly and ready to help you with homework, finding a book, researching for that big school project or just hanging out alone or with friends. This is why we want you to let us know if you feel unsafe or unwelcome for any reason. Hop over to our "We want to hear from you" form and let us know. It is completely anonymous and responses are only seen by the teen librarian.
Finally, we want you to be an active participant in your library. Did you know you can volunteer? You can show up for programming or make suggestions about what you’d like to see happening at your library and get the help you need for school, or to find the next book in the series you’re reading.
